Nordic Masterclass for Conductors is an initiative aiming to create possibilities for young conductors to develop through "practicing their instrument" under top level guidance by prof. Jorma Panula, assistant teacher Maria Badstue and the South Denmark Philharmonic.
The focus is furthermore to emphasize the importance of "podium time" for young conductors or in the words of professor Jorma Panula: "You cannot learn to conduct without an orchestra".
Nordic Masterclass for Conductors was founded in 2012 on the initiative of Maria Badstue in cooperation with Jorma Panula and the South Denmark Philharmonic. The 4th Nordic Masterclass for Conductors took place in January 2017.
2012 The first Nordic Masterclass for Conductors with Jorma Panula and the South Jutland Symphony Orchestra was held in August 2012.
The masterclass had nine participants chosen from the Nordic Countries. The 2012 masterclass was supported by the Augustinus Foundation.

The masterclass had nine participants chosen from all around the world. In 2013 a piano competition was held in order to find soloist for the Grieg piano concerto. The jury consisted of pianists Marianna Shirinyan, Christina Bjørkøe and NAM director Maria Badstue. The 2013 masterclass was supported by the Augustinus Foundation and the Toyota Foundation.

2014 The third Nordic Masterclass with Jorma Panula and the South Denmark Philharmonic took place in 3-8 August 2014 in Alsion Sønderborg.
90 conductors from around applied for the masterclass. A violin competition was held in cooperation with Orkester Norden. Tove Lund from Sweden won the competition and played the Sibelius Violin concerto during the masterclass week and the concert. The masterclass was supported by Augustinus Foundation, Oticon Fonden and Carl Nielsen and Anne-Marie Carl Nielsens Legat.
